Teaching Methodology
At the Reymundo School of Music, we focus on all aspects of musical instruction, including education in sight and ear training disciplines.
Each student begins with an assessment of their abilities in the areas of sight reading, music theory, rhythm, performance, and ear training. Based on this assessment, we develop a lesson plan that focuses on the areas in which the student requires the most attention.
At the end of each year, there will be a final assessment to determine the student's progress. These assessments are similar to the "juries" held each semester in most universities and colleges.
The yearly core requirements include:
-
Rhythm Training
-
Sight Reading
-
Ear Training
-
Music Theory:
-
Musical Notation
-
Scales and Chords
-
Essentials of Harmony
-
-
Ensemble Work (if paired with other students)
-
Assessment
-
Performance (recital)
Recitals are not mandatory. However, they are typically held at the end of Spring, and we encourage our students to participate. There is a small event fee for the recital.
